                  DESIGN ET IMAGINATION

Je crois que notre tâche, en tant que peintres, est d’interpréter le monde qui nous entoure de manière personnelle - et non pas de reproduire exactement ce que nous voyons. 

Cet atelier sera dédié à la construction de peintures pleines de caractère basées sur notre expérience visuelle utilisant l’observation mais surtout l’imagination.

Tous les jours, je vous présenterai un sujet et une démonstration complète basée sur ce même sujet. 

À la fin de la première journée, je vous donnerai un devoir. 

Au matin de la deuxième journée, je ferai une critique en direct des peintures dont les participants en voudront une. Par la suite, je compléterai une deuxième démonstration.

Fournitures: 

Une liste des fournitures que j’utilise vous est donnée plus bas. Par contre, personne ne devrait se sentir obligé de posséder tous les items de la liste. Dans la plupart des cas, votre matériel habituel sera grandement suffisant.

This class will be dedicated to the design of strong paintings based on our visual experience using observations and invention.

+Each day I will introduce a topic and complete a demonstration painting based on that topic.

Af the end of Day One I will issue an assignment

And on the morning of Day Two, I will give a live critique of any paintings by those in the class who wish to receive one. Afterward, I will complete a second demonstration painting

LISTE DE FOURNITURES

+ Sketch Pencil with soft lead –  I use Blackwing Palomino and Faber-Castel E-Motion

+ Eraser – I use soft vinyl by MONO

+ Sketchbook of any comfortable size. I use Beta Series by Stillman & Birn

+ Watercolor Paper:  Good quality surface – I recommend Baohong Masters Choice, Arches Bright White, Saunders Waterford, Fabriano Artistico, 140 lb. (300 gsm) rough surface – quarter or half-sheet sizes will be best – perhaps one or two per day. Also, a good quality watercolor block would be fine.

I will be using primarily half-sheets or smaller 140lb (300 gsm) rough surface taped to light boards for my demos, studio, and field painting. I use thin Masonite and corrugated PVC boards for field work.

+ Easel: A simple, light, outdoor tripod easel (for field work only). The one I use is custom-made, but a similar model can be purchased online from En PleinAir Pro   ; or a simple light board  (plywood, particle board, etc.) on which paper may be affixed for studio work.  A table top easel is optional for indoor work , but not required.

+Watercolor Palette: any type with which you are most comfortable, but it should have at least three good-sized mixing wells. I use a brass palette by House of Hoffman for both studio and field work

+ Pigments: At the very least, 3 high-quality tube colors : a red, a blue, and a yellow. But I suggest the complementary combinations of Blue / Orange ; Ultramarine Blue / Burnt Siena : Yellow / Violet : Green / Red

I will be using the following palette of pigments by Daniel Smith and Holbein:, Naples Yellow (HB), French Ochre  (DS), Raw Umber (DS) Van Dyke Brown (DS) Burnt Siena (DS),  Cad Red Light or Mayan Orange (DS) Permanent Orange (DS) , Light Red (HB) Alizarin Crimson (DS), Serpentine Green (DS), Jadeite Green, (DS) Cobalt Teal (DS), Lavender (HB), Manganese Blue (DS), Cobalt Blue (DS), French Ultramarine, (DS) Imperial Purple (DS), Mineral Violet (HB) Neutral Tint (DS). . Other pigments may be employed as well.

+ Brushes: I suggest a minimum of 3-5 brushes – a natural hair (squirrel mop or equivalent) ,a #10 or12 round, and a ½” or ¾ “flat. Bring only the ones you think you will use.

I will be using  NEEf  118 Series mops, Escoda Aquario Series  mops,  several rounds; (Escoda Perla Series synthetics) and  Escoda Versatil Series flats, a few other miscellaneous flats .Soft Aqua Mops by Raphael are also good. And I use a DaVinci #12 Caseneo Series liner brush for trees.

+  Misc:, Masking tape, a small water mister (Holbein makes the one I use), light-weight water container, and paper towels are needed. (Don’t forget a hat and sunscreen for field work).
